Otherwise, you have to sift through texts like Aelian's Varia Historia, Athenaeus' Deipnosophists, Aulus Gellius' Attic Nights, and these reworked fragments of Philodemus scholars have been talking about.

The biographies of many philosophers are known to us from the book of Diogenes Laertius (this is not the one who lived in a barrel). The book is rather entertaining, written for the noble patron of Diogenes. Many are unreliable, contradictory, simply false. stories. Diogenes, it seems, collected all the obscene and outrageous stories, as long as they were fascinating for the patroness. This is a very bad source, but we don’t have a better one, unfortunately only this shit post remains. Perhaps new transcripts from Herculaneum will provide us with a better source.
