Quentin I have a lot of respect for you but this is going too far. I don't agree with pirates, but SOPA fights them by eliminating fundamental rights. You are wrong on this one, Q-dog.

You can't just say that "people who don't pirate have nothing to worry about". Rights are rights and violating them is wrong, even though pirates are bad. If you violate rights now, it makes those rights weaker and easier to violate. SOPA affects people who don't pirate because it infringes on their rights.

This is a troll thread, but websites would be forced to charge large sums of money in order to allow user generated content, since they would have to pay people to constantly search their websites for any copyrighted content. This raises the entry bar for being able to submit content to the Internet, and restricts free speech. Those with less money are unable to submit or receive any information other than that provided by mainstream news sources.

And this is why the Megaupload thing is proof that the current copyright / internet regime is fairly successful at policing copyrighted material, and SOPA/PIPA is unlikely to be efficacious: as it stands right now, copyright holders are responsible for notifying website hosts about copyrighted material, and they remove it. If they don't, they get buste.d

quentin you are very ignorant of economics.

The only thing piracy does is spread wealth around, and move money spent from being wasted on unproductive enterprises such as "art" like movies/video games/etc, this sort of stuff which can be copied infinitely for free, to more productive useful businesses.

And so people spend their money on other things, yes these businesses might lose out(not really though, but just suppose a download = lost sale) but then the money would just be going to other places which is more useful/desirable.

Copyright itself is a bullshit government granted monopoly which shouldn't even exist.

If you care about rights, you must oppose the existance of copyright.
