These books are so comfy and give me a chuckle at least once a page. Just finished Lords and Ladies. What's your favorite book?

>> No.23406319

I really liked Night Watch as a culmination of the city watch stories.

Lords and Ladies. Rounding out my top 5 favorites would be Small Gods, Carpe Jugulum, Going Postal/Making Money (tie) and Night Watch. The Tiffany Aching books and Maurice and His Educated Rodents are also surprisingly good. I wasn't expecting much going into them as they were ostensibly "for younger readers" but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them along with the rest.

My 5 least favorite would be Maskerade, Soul Music, Moving Pictures, Eric and probably Interesting Times.

Small Gods is probably my favorite, Mort and Monstrous Regiment are up there too. And whatever the one is where Vimes goes back in time, Night's Watch I think?

Oh, and Making Money. Fantastic, hilarious look at the banking industry. I work in finance and use the golems metaphor for central banking reserves regularly.

Are you supposed to read in release order or just pick a random book to start with?

For the most part, they're written so you can just pick up any random book, but there is continuity in the various stories.

Where should I start with Discworld? Never read any, but I like comfy books. Any quick recs?

I never cared about this, saw a short film about an old "Cohen" the barbarian or some shit, is this a fantasy parody?

Isn't it for children? I read a bit of one of the books one day and it was the kind of flat and easy humour that you find in teenage litterature. Not really my thing.

Personally, I think the best first book is The Color of Magic, since it sets the stage for the rest of the series. However, any of the leftmost books on that list are good starting points.

>> No.23409699

>>23408426
Most of the humor in the series is gonna go over a child's head.

>> No.23410536

They're great at start, been reading them in chronological order through the years, but from around Interesting Times onwards Ive noticed a drop of quality, with succeeding each book being either my least favourite or close to it.

>>23407691
Always read in chronological order, authors tend to start referencing events from other books and so on, its retarded to follow charts like >>23407742

Narnia is so much better than the movies make it seem. Most people's experience with this series is the movies and it's a shame. They censored a lot of it.

Discworld Noir
>Urm, but that's a game
Yeah, and it's got great writing and I swear NOBODY talks about it. Damn shame too, Terry really should've written more noir stuff.
