I don't have anything new really to share with you guys (my wife has forbade me for the remainder of the year).

rare books double as an investment since their value goes up nearly every year. just set aside and invest.
>>23369930
I collect only fantasy and sci-fi so I HAVE to have a LOTR set...
I used to have several 1st edition LOTR. I sold them all except my 1957

If I buy a rare book it's because I want it in my collection, not because I want to flip it at a later date. Nice LotR edition though Elephantanon

well so do I, but to placate my wife I have to sell some books every year. I always keep the ones I desire the most though.
I will NEVER sell some things like my elflands, 1957 set, and more recently the beautifully signed 1905 gods of pegana that I picked up. In fine condition. (only a couple exist signed anyway)
not selling those

this, the only valid collectors criteria is age. regardless of rarity or edition.

Expand on this anon. I can think of several editions which are very valuable despite being recently printed.

“It’s old therefore it’s valuable” is the kind of low iq shit you see in auction and second hand markets all the time. Mass produced low quality crap from 100 years ago isn’t automatically valuable actually. You can buy books from the 1700s for less than a paperback.

Conversely, the best way to find a bargain is to exploit someone’s ignorance when it comes to dedications, inscriptions, provenance, special bindings, private press editions.

I still don't get this guy's threads. Congrats, you own books. Thank you for reminding us every week. I literally have the world's largest reference collection of a given topic (not literary) and if I posted like this in my communities I'd be an insufferable twat.

They don’t DOUBLE as an investment since you probably don’t read them in order to preserve their value. So it’s JUST an investment. And maybe a thing to post photos of on a Filipino finger painting forum.

The only rare books I got were some random first edition occult books that were reprinted with different bindings, covers, and layouts after the first run to make them tougher, clean up the art, and fix a few errors.
They weren't meant to be collector items, however, since they were only printed once and in a smaller run they became collector items because collectors are fucking retarded.
