What the fuck is with all of these threads?

Find a subject of interest. Read books on the said subject of interest.

Rinse. Repeat.

Can you thell me why is philosophy stupid?
I'm planning to study it but I am afraid of it being just pure false and useless sophistry.
Is it true?

Don't get me wrong. Deriding philosophy as a subject. I like philosophy.

But the notion that because it's philosophy it is intelligent is just so laughably naive.</spoiler>

Anon wasn't saying "philosophy is stupid." Anon was saying "philosophy isn't always inherently intelligent. Stupid philosophy exists. You have to think critically about it."

>> No.2334488

>>2334481
but philosophy IS over most people's heads the majority of the time so I'm right you're wrong. i win fuck you. haha

Just thinking. Has philosophy ever achieved anything?

>> No.2334494

>>2334487
I wasn't based on Anon's opinion. Is just that many intelligent people I know seem to think that way and I sometimes think that they are right. I mean, several important philosophical matters doesn't even mean anything and they still are discused time after time.

Philosophy used to be proto-science back in the day. Before the scientific method and proper experiments and all that.

Now it's a bunch of psuedos wanking over a ghost.

>> No.2334500

>>2334486

Science is philosophy, so philosophy has achieved many things.

>> No.2334504

>>2334495
This is exactly what I meant. But still scientific method isn't strictly rational (but it works as hell).
What I ask is if there is any space for philosophy today or it is absolutely dead?

I'm the one who took a semester in philosophy. Personally i got frustrated with the lack of rigor and went into math instead. I still have a classmate who i can discuss philosophical matters with for hours at at time, just for the fun of it.

It's an interesting subject, if not immediately useful in the practical world. Just know that, at least at introductory levels, 'philosophy' as a subject really means 'philosophical history'.

>> No.2334525

>>2334517
I'm also doing math and I'm pretty good at it. Is just than I find philosophy to take care of more subjects

As like a side thing? Sure. Everyone should know the basic history of it and it works as a good situation for stimulating critical thought. (And it's always nice to shoot the shit and philosophize with friends and all that) But the diminishing returns set in real quick, especially if you are paying thousands of dollars to take part.

the entirety of the harvad classics set. I dont know if it will make you smarter, but you will be well read in the western canon

Oh for fuck sake, this board is so frustrating. Yes you should study philosophy. You should read all of the classics, and strive to understand it.

You should not pay to study it at college. That is a huge fucking waste of time. Find a field with growth potential, and get a degree in it.
