The reality is NCFOM and The Road have traditional Hollywood movie structures at their heart. Blood Meridian does not, unless you heavily change it, which is what’s most likely to happen.

As long as he didn't also write the script for Nemesis, I'd say it's fine. Nemesis was competently directed; the script was bad and lacked the TNG characters' understanding. There are plenty of good directors who have made bad films simply because they weren't in charge of the other elements.
