What made all those media theorists so optimistic at that time?
Why did they never think that Google will lie to us?

They didn't foresee that the internet would collapse into a handful of companies and no one in the mainstream connected the post 9-11 surveillance apparatus to the suppression of information online. Add to this that academics were completely naive when it came to China's rise, thinking that they would open up to liberalism to access markets, and the reaction now is to try and match their level of control over their citizenry.

Even now, no one talks about how nefarious shit like shadow-banning is--secret censorship in plain sight.

This thread’s relatable to philosophy. /lit/ isn’t solely about literature, but about philosophy as well.

And you're going to be autistic too when I start spamming off topic BBC porn on your favorite board that the jannies only clean once every 40 hours.
Post has nothing to do with literature, reading, writing, nor any acknowledged or documented philosophies.
Let me start blog posting here and if someone accuses me of blog posting then I'm just philosophizing about how my day went. It's philosophy, not blog posting.

I would disagree with you if not for the fact that I have indeed witnessed several people post their diary unedited like this is /adv/ and then and just claim it was actually just free-verse poetry when called out

McLuhan was pretty fucking pessimistic about the direction shit was going in; he was just good at packaging it in a way that dumb boomers thought was "far out" without actually really reflecting on.

At least they're self aware enough to know that they ARE evil now.
