Any recommendations for contemporary French authors?
I am reading Houellebecq again and I want something that is similarly not too difficult but also important
What about 20th century authors?

Eh, it's alright. A better place to start is his short story Unknown Masterpiece and novella Colonel Chabert, and then move on to the great novels.

I'm reading through la comedie humaine however it's structured in my set from start to finish and am really enjoying it. I take breaks in between the stories to read other stuff, but so far I've read
>Cat and the racquet
>Ball at sceaux
>Letters to two brides
>Modeste mignon
>The purse
>A start in life
I've got a long way to go, but I really enjoy the time period he explores, and his style of writing

For my start on it. I'm very happy with the collection and over a long long period of time will end up reading it all. I got mine for a buck on Amazon as an ebook, insane value, it's formatted kind of weird though. A lot of his stories are very feminine and most so far have been romance, but he writes incredibly well and if you have an interest in French history he does a very good job of transporting you to a very interesting time and place. I so far haven't read anything anyone recommends by him, and I'm still very impressed and happy with my reading
