How do I break this cycle? I have ADHD, btw.

Read Fifty-One Tales by Lord Dunsany. I don't think any of them take more than five minutes to read.

Don't try to change your brain, change your environment. Go somewhere where you're physically separated from your phone and your computer. You still have to grind through it, but you've blocked off the past-of-least-resistance default option.

I will preface this by saying I am also diagnosed with ADHD. you dont actually enjoy whatever you're reading. stop being a fag. being disinterested in the book and putting it down is normal for 80-90% of literature, because we are particular people with particular interests. everyone has to hunt for books they're interested in, its completely normal and has nothing to do with your ADHD.
>>23191170
basically this. stop trying to force yourself into reading stuff that doesn't immediately appeal to you for some reason or another.
>>23191174
listen to this anon and wean yourself off of whatever pills you're currently on. they don't help and there's nothing wrong with you -- they're in fact probably making things worse. start eating better and getting regular exercise instead, that's all you need.

kek even reading 'hard' texts is leisurely in comparison to the practice of anything. quit coping.

This isn't true at all. I can code for fun when I'm too tired to meaningfully read a book that I care about. You're not applying a sort of sustained problem-solving effort when you read (though there is some of that), but you do need to switch on parts of your mind that are subtle and hard-to-reach. It's precisely the lack of defined problems to solve, a lake of clear conditions for success or failure, that makes reading require deep focus.

No one cares that you can do leetcodes and web dev when you are tired. if you go away from your computer and think that reading a book would require more energy than continuing your work, your work is insufficiently engaging. it's bliss for me to start reading after my work which although engaging and fun requires rigorous focus. additionally, this focus is constantly under attack by the internet which is never the case while reading a book.

Roleplay the person who reads books. How would this person act ? And do that.
