picrel is probably my favorite from what I have read from NYRB. About as close as one can get to a perfect novel for me, there is little fault I can find in it and what faults I can find are rather minor. One of those novels that never strays far from my thoughts and gets reread once every year or so. Speedboat is a close second but Balcony in the Forest's structural simplicity wins out despite my love of structural complexity.

I seriously have no idea what translationn of the republic I have. The book opens straight into Book I and immediately ends after book X. No commentary, no anything.

NYRB tends to do that when they haven't some shitty foreword to prop up on their cover.
Anyway this is just an old translation that they republished, as they do (/lit/ seems to like Hood's translation of On the Marble Cliffs, for which nyrb ironically did issue a new translation).

Goddamn, I hate the twenty-first century. You get called a retard for browsing on your phone, but literally all the images people post are optimized for phones, even the fucking porn on /gif/ is optimized for phones, and you can't even get sound in the native browser with webms!

You're very obviously a phone poster, or you purposely being dense.
Open up that image on your desktop or laptop. It's optimized for a rectangular phone, so the whole image doesn't fit on your screen, making it a pain to look at the full image. But it's also a pain to look at the thumbnail. All fucking images are like that now. They're made with a phone's screen resolution in mind because they know the majority of people are on their phones now thanks to the fucking street shitters and fly tape niggers and fucking ching chong weeng wongs
