Have any of you actually read any of this schlock?

Multiple women in my life recommended this shit highly and it's fucking trash, like awful. It's on the level that I cannot believe it got published or that the author gets paid to write. This is fanfiction tier writing at best, where the petulant child of a main character reflexively goes against what she is advised to do to her own detriment and then she whines about it. Add on the fact that despite all the time spent basically just saying "all these magical people are super powerful" but we never see any meaningful or interesting uses of it to the point that it barely even qualifies as fantasy.

Do women just not like actual good writing? Is this all they want, to see what amounts to wish fulfillment carried out in the most flat and boring manner possible?

What are some actual good romance stories that are worth reading?

Average people will always go for wish fulfillment/self insert Mary Sues over complex and nuanced themes. The women read slop like acotar and the men watch anime or comic book adaptations.

I love ya romantasy but I don't like SJM. I don't like her writing style or her characters. I think there are plenty of amazing authors who write romantasy.

I also love superhero movies, the good ones, anyway.

Yes, but did you watch every single marvel adaptation multiple times? Do you own a single funko pop? There's a difference between what you said and what we're talking about. Everyone likes to indulge in a little slop now and then, but some people are on a strict diet of pig food.

Kushiel's Dart is good if you like historical/low fantasy and don't mind the stilted prose. Unfortunately I can't offer any other recommendations since I haven't read much romance and most of what I have read turned out to be garbage that never should've been published.

I don't know what's worse, the fact you read all of those books or the fact you were invested enough to make a tier chart.

I think what confuses me the most is 'adults' who continue to read anything labelled YA. It's always people who self-describe as book lovers and use goodreads that read that slop and call it good. I know a girl who says she likes "middle-grade" like what the fuck you are 30.

When did we infantilize ourselves so thoroughly? I read East of Eden recently and it was such a shock to compare that to this trash.
