That the consumerist descriptions are utterly ridiculous in terms of taste. That Bateman is comprised of the plagiarism of bad newspaper reviews. etc.

That's the point. IIRC Ellis writes it into the story that he memorizes what he reads for appearances.

Nothing, you hit it in the nose; American Psycho was pretty much the result of Mr. Gay Pride Of The Upper East Side being on a boatload of cocaine & feeling alienated by & angry at the yuppie lifestyle he was living in the late 80s/early 90s. Idk that Bateman ever actually kills anyone in the novel, & everything described is just a confession of sadistic hallucinations & fantasies that Ellis was experiencing irl at the time

The point being that Bateman actually has taste, but rejects it in favour of "fitting in" with the people he's "slumming" with. Bateman is doing the rich tourist holiday… with executives as the poor "authentic" real people.
