The quality of posts here is relatively higher compared to other boards. People who read tend to have a better control of the language than those who spend all day playing computer games or watching youtube or tiktok, and that makes their posts and conversations on /lit/ more interesting and of better quality.

Yeah, I can see that. I guess I would personally always feel confident in an argument centring around linguistic nit-picking, because I used to do it, only to realise (well, I see it this way now) that I was being pretty stupid, insofar as somebody's notion of language develops in line with whatever input they receive for it, and the occassional slip of what they might consider the rule is nothing more than (as I would see it) evidence of a different way in which their brain decided to convey meaning in that moment. All that's to say that if someone were not taking me seriously on that kind of basis, I wouldn't personally be too bothered these days, to the extent that the foundation upon which they're dismissing me is (in my opinion) a narrow-minded one. But yeah, say younger me were called an ESL for a slight error, I think my ego would have flared up, as a matter of pride in my self-identity as a "compotent English speaker". I can only speak from my own experience, of course. Pinch of salt, and all that.

I am genuinely very kind and patient with ESLs IRL. I do not at all think less of them as people. I learn a little of my ESL friends' languages and music too. It's like a picture perfect cultural exchange.
On 4chan I enjoy mocking them, and I firmly believe they should learn English more before posting. I have respect for ESL posters who have decent English though. It's great when high level ESLs correct other ESLs.
Honestly, I'm not sure why I treat them so differently on here.

I mean, 'your' has an 'r' in it, which might well serve as an even more efficient graphical realisation of the elided 'are' sound. As to using 'you're' when 'your' is proper, maybe the apostrophe being associated with the possessive plays a part here. Though I can personally say I don't see many people get it wrong that way round. Same idea could be applied to 'their/they're'. I'll also note that it might be a matter of people typing things out quickly enough that their mind kind of 'defaults' to a given sequence of letters which it recognises as capable of forming the sound that it's after. So it goes from 'They're' (in meaning), through 'ðɛː' (in sound (my accent)), to 'Their' (in spelling), and, insofar as they're capable of decoding the meaning themselves from context, they see no reason to backtrack and correct. Their brain might even skip over it on a proof-read, as a reverse of the process outlined above.

perspective ?
any bilingual individual should have it no ?
when two real languages merge in one tongue they create conflict
>the one speaking in two tongues, you should know that he has introduced injustice into them; Because each of the two languages attracts the other, takes from it, and opposes it, and how can the tongue’s mastery of both of them combined in it be like its mastery if it is alone with one, but it has one power, so if it speaks in one language, that power is exerted on them.

i do think that modern english especially is bias to the secular perspective ; it is apparent in your dictionaries that you like to force a certain idiom , rather than etymologically use words by their true meanings

Arabic sounds as rough as Dutch/German in Morocco, as soft as French in Lebanon, as luxurious as nothing else in Qatar, and as grand and beautiful as Aramaic in Fusha.

I always assumed that most westerners would find my speech rough, but literally whenever I speak or make a comment in Arabic they stare and comment how it is a beautiful language. My friend started learning Arabic last year after I read a literal user manual which they thought sounded beautiful. And this friend is a man, not a woman, and he is not gay, so it is not like he is learning it to get fucked or something like that. I actually never once had someone comment anything other than extreme positivity to my Arabic, including strangers. Maybe it has to do with my voice or tone, but I believe it is mainly the language and the dialect.

I also think Russian sounds nice. Rough, but beautiful in a way. Better than English at least. Dutch is the ugliest sounding language. German is less bad than Dutch. Portuguese is bad, but Brazilian Portuguese is almost unbearable, right next to Dutch, and I like Brazilians.

It is a language bound to be deceitful dear anon , curse thy meaningless words.
tis new words they say , none authentic and meaningless rootless words , you can not decide their true meaning unless you see the speaker who utters them , monkey-like set of sounds only deducible when you see the arrogant grin of their curved lips while throwing those words , drawling .

On the internet it feels like a personal slight if you disrespect my language with shitty ESL grammar. Like for fucks sake you can't learn the difference betweeen 'does' and 'is'? Or learn why you don't put 'how' with 'like' in a sentence?
In person its not a problem because they're clearly a foreign tourist struggling. But on the internet they're hanging out in the English area pretending they're one of us. Like just go to your own language forums if you can't speak English.

I used to think 4chan was so incredibly dorky because any new slang was banished out of principle, from what I assumed was a principle of grammar.

It's only recently or realized that it's just ESLs being upset over not understanding a word not in the dictionary. I've seen ESLs accuse the most abigj and commonplace let and terms shit like "bigger slang" because they didn't understand it.
So now I know that ESLs are policing English on 4chan, and that bugs me.

This site was significantly better when the people posting on it were exclusively Americans and had no reason to be here other than some kind of sincere love of early anime. To see people who can barely type in english (let alone make a coherent point, or follow along with one, or anything) is the most glaring sign that this place isn't anything special anymore. Something I had fun with for years is yet another head on the social media hydra. Smaller boards are immune to this for the most part, but how long do you think that will really last?

A lot of people type how they talk so actually typing out your sentences to be full proper english outs you. For example, if I was ESL that sentence would've been something like "I have noticed that EFL tend to type in a manner similar to how they talk". It's objectively a better sentence, but it's obvious I don't have a proper flow for speaking it in my head.
