23123003 No.23123003 [Reply] [Original]

Did Thales actually visit Babylonia or Egypt, or would he have encountered the idea of the cosmological primacy of water, which was dominant in Near Eastern civilizations, through cultural contact in his home of Miletus?

>> No.23123018

He didn't need any of that gay shit. He just looked at the world, saw how important water was to all things and said "yeah that's it." Like use some deductive reasoning for once.

>> No.23123025

He problaly didn't:

Exactly.
He didn't need any of that.
He was from, Miletus, a costal city, surrounded by water.
It's was obvious in retrospective that someone like thales, would probably get an answer like that, with some deductive reasoning.

23123035

>>23123003
Yeah, maybe. I don’t know. Why don’t you read his works and decide for yourself?

>> No.23123054

>>23123003
Actually, no, here is a better video showing how Thales got his water idea:
>https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3D6_NlLoRVYpA&ved=2ahUKEwjg4I2VqcyEAxVn7rsIHbeZDREQo7QBegQIBxAB&usg=AOvVaw2gG6bCnqGS5r0X_eCt9uFF
You can watch both, but this one is definitely deeper.

>> No.23123070

>>23123035
No.
There is no evidence he visited places outside of Greece/Miletus.
Everything we have mentioning that, is later sources like Herodotus exaggerating Thales life.

>> No.23123087

>>23123070
Yeah, my point is that he is an incredibly inconsequential figure and everything we have on him is spurious stuff from hundreds of years later.

>> No.23123096

>>23123087
It probably came as deductive reasoning+the fact his city (Miletus) was a costal city surrounded by water.
That's how Thales got his water idea.
Again, watch this video:>>23123054
Its only 15 min, and it explains everything we know about thales and how we know it.

>> No.23123103

>>23123070
>there is no evidence
>except for this evidence which I arbitrarily disregard

>> No.23123107

>>23123103
Watch this video, please:
>>23123054
It explains how we know the evidence that he didn't left greece.

>> No.23123116

>>23123103
Does it really matter to you either way? Everything on Thales is secondhand from Herodotus and Plato. He’s not even an important presocratic outside of inventing the concept of philosophy and also the silly anecdote where he fell in a ditch because he was watching the stars.

>> No.23123122

>>23123116
Yeah, but no scholars nowadays doubt the fact, that he didn't even left greece, again watch this:
>>23123054
It explains how we know the evidence that he didn't left greece.

Thales was Persian. Source: Jason Reza Jorjani

>> No.23123198

>>23123192
No,he wasn't, you liar.
He was a greek costal anatolian from Miletus.
Nothing persian about that.
So shut up you idiot.

>> No.23123211

>>23123198
His “joke” is that the source he listed is a very Persian sounding name which implies poor historicity in lieu of national propaganda.

>> No.23123218

>>23123211
Ok.
It wasn't funny though.
It's also misleading.
Specially on such a figure like thales.

>> No.23123222

>>23123211
>>23123218
That wasn't the joke. The joke was that Jason Jorjani claims that every philosopher of the ancient world was Persian or Persian influenced which is retarded.

>> No.23123227

>>23123222
Yes likely because he is a Persian nationalist. Without even looking up him up I can tell he’s some Iranian Uber nationalist who probably has a segment on Press TV.

>> No.23123232

>>23123211
Also, did you watch this video about Thales:
>https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3D6_NlLoRVYpA&ved=2ahUKEwjg4I2VqcyEAxVn7rsIHbeZDREQo7QBegQIBxAB&usg=AOvVaw2gG6bCnqGS5r0X_eCt9uFF
Or not?
If not, then please watch it, it's only 15 min and it explains everything about how we know thales did not left greece and how he got his water idea.
So please, watch it.

>> No.23123241

>>23123227
He actually deeply opposes the Ayatollah and the Islamic regime but he is a psycho-retard-Persian Nationalist

>> No.23123250

>>23123116
>he's not even an important philosopher
>aside from the fact that he invented philosophy

>> No.23123251

>>23123222
Yeah, that sounds retarded.
Persians had Zoroaster and others, but to claim thales was influenced by persian thinking just sounds like an attempt at propaganda.

>>23123192
>>23123222
Jorjani is a glowie who is meant to make Persian nationalists look bad. After all, he thinks ancient Persians were literally Swedes, and he supports destroying the country for Israel.
