Should I read the most widely available Hofmann translation of Storm of Steel or some other? I've heard that Hofmann translation is censored of "aggressive nationalism" (!?). I don't want some censored version so how bad is it? Still okay to read?

I've also noticed that for some reason there is Penguin Classics and Penguin Modern Classics version of Storm of Steel, I wonder why that is? Is there any difference between these two editions from Penguin?

It's not censored. It's based on an edition that Jünger himself released. He was perfectly willing.

They use the same translation. The modern classics one is the UK version, I believe.

Jünger himself revised SoS in major ways like a dozen times during his career. In a way, yeah, it is a completely different novel, but every revision was done by him, of his own volition.

It's okay, you can read Creighton's version or go full purist and read the first German edition. Hoffmann's translation is better than Creighton's, though.

I learned to read German for this exact reason, specifically the huge amount of writings that remains untranslated and purposefully so.
