Welcome to /lit/'s top 50 children's books. This is a poll created to determine our board's favorite children's books. Conditions:
- You can vote for a maximum of 5 books and a minimum of 1.
- Duplicated votes don't count (example: using your 5 votes for The Big Cat will only be counted as one vote).
- Please format your votes like this: Book - Author (example: The Little Fairy - John Smith).
- Why not 100 books? This poll is intended to be a smaller version of the annual chart.
- The poll will close in February 21 at around 2:00 UTC and the chart will be posted the next day.

Yea, he wrote it for his children.

Also, if you don't want to write the full author name, use the format: The Little Fairy - Smith.

Tempting to go for the older age range because they're books that you're more likely to re-read as an adult.

Watership Down
Wind in the Willows
Alice in Wonderland
Winnie the Pooh
Little House in the Big Woods

Five isn't really enough. A pity to lose Tom Sawyer, The Jungle Book, Fantastic Mr Fox, The Iron Man, Mrs Frisby & the Rats of NIMH, Anne of Green Gables, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Tales of the Greek Heroes, etc

>> No.23074883

Heidi and the whole Anne of Green Gables series are top tier

Yes they are. If one were to list 100 must-read works of fiction for adults, and the same for children, I think the second list would have about six times as many female authors as the first.

OP here, I forgot about the tiebreaker thing. It will be held on Feb 22, and the chart will be posted the next day. We haven't even reached 50 books yet, in case we fail I will post the chart with the existing books.

>The Wind in the Willows 3

Maybe you just need to scale back expectations. Aim for 15-20 books, and don't have a hard deadline. If you need to remake the thread a couple times, just do it.

>> No.23077431

Lots of good suggestions in this thread so I'm gonna add some books not listed already

Hatchet
The Giver
Wayside school is falling down
The Chronicles or Narnia (the whole series is amazing)
The phantom toll booth
The giving tree
BFG (big friendly giant)
Holes

Requiring a signed account reduces participation. That's the trade off for marginally more security.

No, it works pretty well. Otherwise you'll have 100s of retards spamming Mein Kampf. I know because I've seen polls where they don't have the sign in requirement and it's a mess.
