I'd prefer to use primary theoretical texts rather than secondary introductory texts. Kola counts because he has a major thesis regarding Marxism and has the European's honesty in intellectual history to separate the exegetic from his eisegesis.

Secondary texts are things people use to understand historical (and sometimes contemporary) topics, which are interpreted for them. This isn't a secondary text, since it's by a Marxist theorist. It would be a secondary text if the book was "Understanding Marx," since Marx himself is a historical topic, and the primary documents would be Marx's own. But Marxism is an ideology, and since Wolff is a very prominent Marxist, that makes this a primary document since he's talking about his own theories.

I'd say these are worth reading because they address contemporary issues. I'm also very skeptical of people on here who say nobody should read modern philosophers, they should only read the primary historical documents, because if someone claims to only be reading the things Hegel and Heidegger wrote themselves, without the historical context and interpretation of scholars who've spent their careers deciphering those texts and understanding their historical contexts, then I very much doubt they're really understanding those texts. Frankly, it brings to mind the image of pseuds with a bunch of pdfs on their laptops they stare at from time to time to feel smugly superior on 4chan/Reddit.

Federici is still alive. World-systems is an active sub-branch. Poulantzas is still demonstrative. They're primary accesses to the uses of Marx, not historically primary.

If you're unfamiliar with the works I cited, you're not actually familiar with contemporary Marxism as an academic ideology on the verges of micro-parties.
