Who actually wrote the plays and sonnets that are traditionally attributed to a man named "William Shakespeare" ?

Why not ask this question for every single author that exists as an oil painting?
Because WS is popular doesn't make his case any special to debate this topic.

If his works are so great then what does it matter who wrote them. The words remain the same. The sonnets stand eternal. Hamlet forever carries the skull. What does it matter if it was written by the son of a glovemaker or a disgraced noble. If De Vere or Bacon wished to hide behind the troupe maser who are you to disagree with their wishes. And if the Avon man wrote them who are you to try to deny his glory. There is no reason to care about this question at all

The context in which works are written matters an enormous deal. I agree absolutely there's a timeless aspect to literature but we shouldn't entirely forget that these are works specific to a certain time and place because otherwise we stop being able to understand them. Actually the belief that the plays are entirely eternal are part of the retrospective fallacy of the anti-Stratfordian perspective -- anti-Stratfordians usually believe that everything about Shakespeare was meticulously planned with elaborate intricate designs, that even Shakespeare's name could not be left to chance, whereas Stratfordians are more likely to accept that chance and contingency was and is an element of the creative process. Anti-Stratfordians usually believe that the man behind Shakespeare always knew of his superhuman greatness, otherwise there is little reason to fabricate a conspiracy to hide his identity, whereas Stratfordians usually infer from the plays that Shakespeare was somewhat oblivious to it. In short anti-Stratfordians, especially Oxfordians, believe he was born great, whereas Stratfordians believe he either achieved greatness or had greatness thrust upon him. Although of course he's still great either way, I don't think we can understand the what of his greatness fully unless we know how he was great.

If someone did include a cipher then obviously his intent was to garner peoples interest. That coupled with the cryptic introductions of numerous publications just pique interest. Which is the whole point is it not? Anyway people have revealed it here before and it is all there for whomever has a want to find it. Who am i to upset tradition?

This. Homer likely never existed, or at least he was several wandering bards and chroniclers, but to the world the author of the Iliad and the Odyssey is simply Homer.

I thought the Oxfordians were shizos but I read one of de Vere’s letters and it’s literally Shakespeare in prose form. I refuse to believe anyone who reads it could still think he didn’t write those plays. Here’s part of it:

>And herein I am forced like a good and politic captain oftentimes to spoil and burn the corn of his own country, lest his enemies thereof do take advantage. For rather than so many of your countrymen should be deluded through my sinister means of your industry in studies (whereof you are bound in conscience to yield them an account) I am content to make spoil and havoc of your request, and that, that might have wrought greatly in me in this former respect, utterly to be of no effect or operation: and when you examine yourself what doth avail a mass of gold to becontinually imprisoned in your bags, and never to be employed to your use?

>I do not doubt even so you think of your studies and delightful Muses. What do they avail, if you do not participate them to others? Wherefore we have this Latin proverb: Scire tuum nihil est, nisi te scire hoc sciat alter. What doth avail the tree unless it yield fruit unto another? What doth avail the vine unless another delighteth in the grape? What doth avail the rose unless another took pleasure in the smell? Why should this tree be accounted better than that tree, but for the goodness of his fruit? Why should this vine be better than that vine, unless it brought forth a better grape than the other? Why should this rose be better esteemed than that rose, unless in pleasantness of smell it far surpassed the other rose?

>And so it is in all other things as well as in man. Why should this man be more esteemed than that man, but for his virtue, through which every man desireth to be accounted of? Then you amongst men I do not doubt, but will aspire to follow that virtuous path, to illuster yourself with the ornament of virtue. And in mine opinion as it beautifieth a fair woman to be decked with pearls and precious stones, so much more it ornifieth a gentleman to be furnished in mind with glittering virtues.
