>I know I'll transfer most of my power to an object that is disconnected from my body, so that if that object is destroyed I am essentially killed.
Uhh, this doesn't seem like the best idea...

He already got killed once and yeeted to spirit form. As long as the ring existed he could recover it. He's still alive after LOTR but can't do shit because the ring is gone.

Why didn't he pick a random pebble for a horcrux and just yeeted it into the ocean?

>> No.22941414

A sacrifice was needed for the horcux to come to life iirc, that's why he tried killing Ginny in Chamber of secrets. Had to be somewhere near people.

he could kill an infant with that pebble

He has a losing record against infants. I don't think it would be as easy as you make it sound.

Because the Horcrux, being a mutilation of the Soul, needs an object of personal significance to be created.

>> No.22941844

>>22941698
Is this actually canon though? I remember reading the books and having the exact same thought. Just go to a garbage belt and make a Horcrux out of a Pepsi can. The answer of the fandom to that question seems to be that Voldemort was such an extreme narcissist that he chose objects of personal significance out of vanity, not because it's a requirement.

It's all implied. The Soul, Love, and Life, are all Divine realms, and perverting them is a blasphemous loophole. That's Voldemort’s whole essence, the refutation of God and the search for mundane survival.
In the end, Love/God triumphs. You can only truly see Harry Potter through a Biblical lens.
Horcruxes and the Hallows both are a rebellion against God, which is revealed to be a pointless effort.
