This was the last book I read by a female Canadian author, was the most boring piece of shit. I could not make it through more than 1/2 through because it was just incredibly boring.

Weirdly enough that isn't even my main complaint here. Yes, a lot of them are just boring as well but remember that I am listening to audiobooks to try to fall asleep to so I am fine with them being boring. It's more that they are just badly written and the main character always feels like some kind of weird self-insert. There is nothing wrong with a character being written as a self-insert inherently I don't think but there is a right way to handle it and a wrong way.

That's not true anon. Some of the best stories out there are retellings, at least in part. We re-use stories all the time. Take a look at all the great fantasy books with Elves in them.

And sometimes its fun to read stories about ancient Greeks from modern authors.
