It is probably an antiquarian bookshop or the like, they tend not to hire minimum wage retards since the books are rare and expensive and minimum wage retards are retarded. There is a whole range of retail that is well above minimum wage and these jobs often start out as an apprenticeship because you are expected to learn and know about the stock and trade at a high level and it is the sort of specialty training you can not get in a school.
