22865960 No.22865960 [Reply] [Original]

I used to mock those sigma grindset people but I have now realised this is what is missing from my life. I know people think it's unhealthy but, to do something so stubbornly to the point that your mind and body are destroyed is admirable. This is a relatively new phenomenon, so there might not be much research done on it. But what are the best books on the subject?

one book i can think is the baburnama (autobiography) - the guy would go to any lengths to make it, losing everything multiple times and risking his own life all along,
he kept trying on and on until he made. built different.

>His daily schedule then looked something like this. He got up at 5:00 A.M. His servant Martin Lampe, who worked for him from at least 1762 until 1802, would wake him. The old soldier was under orders to be persistent, so that Kant would not sleep longer. Kant was proud that he never got up even half an hour late, even though he found it hard to get up early. It appears that during his early years, he did sleep in at times. After getting up, Kant would drink one or two cups of tea -- weak tea. With that, he smoked a pipe of tobacco. The time he needed for smoking it "was devoted to meditation." Apparently, Kant had formulated the maxim for himself that he would smoke only one pipe, but it is reported that the bowls of his pipes increased considerably in size as the years went on. He then prepared his lectures and worked on his books until 7:00. His lectures began at 7:00, and they would last until 11:00. With the lectures finished, he worked again on his writings until lunch. Go out to lunch, take a walk, and spend the rest of the afternoon with his friend Green. After going home, he would do some more light work and read.

Cristiano Ronaldo is an interesting guy if you look at his history. He is basically talent + hardwork, and left his family at an early age to join a academy in Portugal while his family lived in Madeira. He was alone in Lisbon where the other kids took the piss out of him because of his accent, and he went full sigma as a fuck you to everyone. Just before he got signed my Manchester United his dad died of some health issues related to alcoholism- not only could Ronaldo have payed for and dealt with his dads problems if he lived a little longer, but his dad could of seen him actually make it.

For the exact reason you made this thread. Fucking propaganda. NASA was relegated to pushing the diversity propaganda. Musk was created to give the government more distance to caery out their psyops through a "3rd party". If the government imposes a mandate and push for electric cars as a larger plan to limit mobility and control it encounters opposition. If whacky sexo car man "independently" popularizes EVs and normalizes them then the government quietly rolls out their planned legislation with less resistance.

This is true, but you seem to forget the middle ground and I'd highly recommend this having done so myself; Go for the grind, but only for a limited time (unless you're oldish already). That way, you will
1. Have a lot of stories to tell/be interesting
2. Be experienced in a lot of things
3. Have hardened yourself towards Stress
4. Know what you look for in life
5. Be able to concentrate on family after the grind
What first anon said is true. The only people remembering that you worked late will be your kids. This does not mean that you shouldn't grind hard at all. Dosage is the key.

I have been around a lot of death in my career and you are correct. I have comforted people in their 30s that are dying of some cancer or other and most of them are sad that they spent too much time away from their children or chose to work rather than travelling. I have never had someone lament the fact that they are poor, not once. The fact is that you will forget your miserable experience of grinding because by its nature you have to mentally fortify yourself to do it. Living a fulfilling life where you appreciate the cards you have been dealt and learn to live within your means will make you happier on your death bed and during the course of your life.

Well duh, that's mostly because they were too poor. I grew up in a poor family and never had the opportunity to visit any places outside of my country until I started grinding to get sufficient money. That is true for everyone I got to know with the exception of two people (excluding myself) and it's also true for businesses.

I wrote "chose to work" you goofy fellow. The people that I'm dealing with aren't exclusively poor or wealthy, it's a good mix of both. I agree with your point about being born into a wealthy family but I have met plenty of people from the professional classes that will often choose to keep working for whatever their personal reasons are rather than allocating time for their personal life and enjoyment. Even successful people waste their time grinding for a few extra thousand dollars, I think it's just human nature that people are mostly unable to reflect that they only have one life and will spend a disproportionate amount of time doing busywork.

I find the real benefit of these books is motivation, none of the information is all that novel or helpful. If you want something, do what it takes to get it, and don't wait until conditions are right. Like someone else here said, wake up and do it for the whole day. If you want to be self-destructive about it, don't eat or sleep for 2 days, just push yourself brutally. People will say this is stupid and not optimal, but sometimes this sort of mentality of self-denial is exactly what you need to do. Some people thrive when they do things in a structured way, they do well in routine, but others like myself need to go all the way right from the beginning or it never starts. I've done this in World Of Warcraft when I farmed a dungeon mount I wanted, I did it in League of Legends when I wanted to reach a certain rank, I did in in StarCraft II, I did it when learning languages, I did it for fitness, I did it in a job, without fail these times in my life have been the absolute best and most interesting, when I stopped caring about my health and just hauled ass. I would go to school, do after school study until 8pm, then walk to the gym in the dark and work out exhausted until 10pm. I'd go home and make whatever food I had in the simplest way possible, almost always chicken and rice, and I'd just collapse onto my bed. Doing this 5-6 days a week put me in a soldierly mindset.

Books I'd recommend are Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins, The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle, How To Fail At Almost Everything and Still Win Big by Scott Adams, Atomic Habits by James Clear, and Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. These were mostly the books I used to read when I was big into the grindset, although this was before it became a thing, and since then I've become more religious and would substitute some of these for The Bible, C.S Lewis' Mere Christianity and other devotional works

This is a personality trait, if you're looking to develop a grindset life, then you don't heve it. You need to be disagreeable, narcissistic, high taak salience while also getting bored quickly and have charisma. You can't read a book and become Dwayne Johnson, these people are who they are from the get go and I'm tired of pretending in another noble lie to the contrary.

Nah, it’s a relatively harmless drug in terms of physical detriment, especially at moderate doses. The problem is that it can easily lead to psychological dependence because it helps make boring and tedious things *significantly* more tolerable and sometimes even enjoyable. This can make it so that it’s easier for you to get things done without having to exert lots of effort, but with the trade off of attributing the completion of the task at hand to being high on the drug rather than due to personal competence.

There is a performance drop that comes with it, though, because it makes you fidgety and prone to involuntary movements. It can also make it very difficult to switch tasks, which can lead to counter-intuitive amounts of effort on something that your sober mind would have otherwise deemed to be complete.

Relentless by Tim Grover.

This book is more targeted at athletes but it is such a good read if you want to get motivated.

The author was the personal trainer of Michael Jordan, amongst other high profile basketball players, and he basically advocates taming your worst qualities and using them to become the best.

no joke at one point he implies the reason Tiger woods is so good at golf is because he is the type of person who would cheat on his wife.

Kek, your point was that successful people don't read books about achieving things, when multiple people with actual success (not just half-literate normgroid athletes and musicians who can't read anyways) have come out and told them certain self-help and self-help adjacent books helped them out in their thinking.
>Warren Buffet mentions How to Win Friends and Influence people constantly
>Bill Clinton claims to re-read Meditations every year
>Bill Gates, Zuckerberg and Bezos all talk about self help books they've read in their blogs or interviews
>infinite cases of people modelling aspects of their routines after other successful people before the self-help genre started
