do you have an e-reader or are you thinking about buying one? I've been eyeing the scribe and it looks pretty cheap right now, I always liked the idea of tablet with stylus but reading on an ipad or something feels like shit

>/lit/ is for the discussion of literature, specifically books (fiction & non-fiction), short stories, poetry, creative writing, etc. If you want to discuss history, religion, or the humanities, go to /his/. If you want to discuss politics, go to /pol/. Philosophical discussion can go on either /lit/ or /his/, but those discussions of philosophy that take place on /lit/ should be based around specific philosophical works to which posters can refer.

Are there any e-readers that get around this?

>trade it in when buying the scribe

feels good bros, was considering the scribe or the boox air 3 c but I really dont care about color and reading/writing is my priority, less so using something thats basically a tablet with e-ink

Given that an e-reader is used mainly for reading books and other literary works, it's definitely relevant to discuss on /lit/. It's a device for literature, after all.

I've recently bought a Kobo Libra 2 and I love it, already I'm reading books that would otherwise be difficult or expensive to get a physical copy of. My only regret is not getting one years ago. I'm planning to donate most of my 'collection' (dusty books I have not read in years)

ignore the retard, he's just mad because his /sfg/ got archived again. what a faggot.
Anyway, the cheapest and best choice iMo is geyting a 2nd hand 7th gen kindle, jailbrake it and install koreader in it. Got one for $50 and it was one of the best buys i've made. read almost everyday now and its a good convo starter with chicks if you are in a park or restaurant. Also ypu can install apps like paint, notes, gallery, terminal etc.

I bough one in the books store for 150 euros a few years back. I still prefer a physical book, but and e-reader is a far easier on the eyes than reading on a tablet. Now it also has advantages. Ebooks are first of all cheaper than physical books, and you can find a lot of books online for free if you look long enough, even if they are of questionable quality often. So it basically pays for itself in the long run. Furthermore it also doesn't take up shelf space so if you don't have a massive bookshelf it is very handy. So I wholeheartedly recommend one if you are an avid reader.

It's not the best but not entirely insufferable if you can handle smaller fonts and get your margins and gutters spaced right. No worse than a mass market paperback on average. Depends on what you're reading more than anything, wordy books with long words and drawn out paragraphs start to suffer if you don't have enough words per line and you have to shrink the font, which isn't the easiest thing to read.

Get the font right and it's pretty much indistinguishable from your average octavo, a little shorter and those margins on the sides can be tight depending on sundry bullshit.

koreader with wiktionary works well. you may be able to jailbreak your kindle depending on the firmware version or you can get a kobo or an android based ereader. you also need to find the wiktionary for your language packages as stardict. if youve bought books in the kindle store, either pirate them or remove the drm with the dedrm calibre plugin.

I'm trying to pursue a minimalist lifestyle because I'm tired of owning so much useless shit. Part of that is getting rid of all the books on my bookshelves that I've already read or am never going to read. I can clear up all that shelf space and store every book I could ever need in a tiny tablet smaller than most books are, so e-readers are great for me. Also, I can get ancient literature in the original languages for free off the internet instead of paying oxford $60 a pop. ALSO! E-books are way cheaper than normal books. Very cool devices.

since I got my kindle paperwhite about 6 years ago I barely watch the t.v. anymore. It fits in my pocket. I take it everywhere. Waiting room at the dentist? do some reading. Girlfriend running into the grocery while I wait outside? do some reading.
There's plenty of sources to download free books, too, quality books and classics
I prefer fadedpage and project gutenburg
I've read more in the last six years than in my entire life before that.
