Posted a question in the previous thread near when it ended, I'll copy and paste it here with slight edits to get more opinions:
There's a handful of other people submitting collections which I've left as individual submissions along side the novels/plays. For example, there's been a mix of individual Kafka submissions, The Metamorphosis, etc alongside submissions for collections of his work. I've assumed it's best to leave the non-Shakespeare submissions untouched. If anyone wants to post feedback on the topic I'd love to hear it.

Yes, Tristan is still great literature, but it was designed with musical structures in mind and is a much smaller work. In the Ring there was more of a divorce between writing and composing, the language at most designed to be receptive to the music but otherwise having nothing to do with musical structure. The constant repetitions and minute variations of Tristan's language are musical, they're not dramatic, they're expressions of internal states. And Wagner described Tristan as 'a supplementary Act of the great Nibelungen-myth', of which the latter was 'a mythos compassing the whole relations of a world'. The Ring is a much larger work and his literary magnum opus, even if Tristan is artistically more important.

What? Isn't the point of Wagner's music dramas literally the opposite? That the music is shaped by the words? What structure is there in Tristan apart from it being in three acts and the use of recurring (but never the same) leitmotifs? There's no arias, recitatives, choruses, or other traditional forms.

It's very complicated, but the music IS being shaped by the words. They're not musical structures in the sense of arias, recitatives, choruses etc., but poetico-musical structures. So the music is rendering each symbol and shift of meaning in the text. But Tristan is unique in his oeuvre as his most musical work, blurring the line between music and poetry, and is an exception.

Because of this discussion of Wagner I've decided to exclude most Greek books from the list. Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles, etc. were all originally sung and performed with instruments. Therefore they are not literature.
