cracked spine = soul

Nothing worse than picking up a book in a charity shop which has a forgotten, discarded bookmark left to rot, not even 100 pages into the book itself.

I once bought a used book and the previous owner left a picture of an at least 90 year old man as a bookmark, not even half way into the book. She never finished it bros...

When reading many stick the bookmark somewhere earlier in the book for safe keeping, when they finish it they leave it where they stuck it because no need to move it to the end. Also, book marks are not only for keeping your place as you read, they are used for reference and stuck in the place you want to look at more closely or the like. I don't think you read.
>>22817605
Any decent author defines the various structures they will use throughout the book in the first 10-20% and that is the place annotations are of greatest use when it comes to the general read for theme. Only reason to annotate after that is if you are going to pull apart the entire book. I don't think you read either, you certainly don't comprehend. You can learn a great deal about analysis and note taking from analyzing the marginalia.

>> No.22817637

>>22817628
When you read you either put the bookmark at the end of the book, at the beginning of the book or you place it on your desk. At least if you grew up with an ounce of culture in your blood.

I think you're genuinely retarded. Most people, particuarly normies, use a bookmark to keep their page. If they need a page for reference they will either annotate the book or use one of those paper tags. Not everyone is autistic like you.

A book need not be opened more than 90 degrees as you only need to see one page at a time. Take care of your possessions. Also, suspicion over whether someone read a book or not is suspicious in itself, but towards the accuser

Seriously, why can't anglos make decent paperbacks? None of the paperbacks I have need any special care opening them and they don't break the spine, the covers are made to bend all the way

I own a copy of "1001 Books" and the only titles crossed off are reddit titles and stuff you read in school (TKAM, Lord of the Rings, Douglas Adams). Nothing from before 1900 or which was written in a non-English language was crossed off.

Is it some kind of low IQ psychopathy to mark books by cracking their spines? Do people pull as hard as they can to open their pages to 180°? How is the book ever going to be passed down or survive multiple readings? Some of my read books look untouched on my shelf and I'm not handling them any special way.

>> No.22819046

>>22819026
This. Minimal effort needed to keep books in like new condition. Anons who are fixated on others’ spines and book conditions are strange. Seems like some psychological issue methinks and says something about the skeptic

>Is it some kind of low IQ psychopathy to mark books by cracking their spines?
It's how I tease my gf; I call her a barbarian psychopath for cracking open her books and handling them without any care whatsoever. With that being said, she's extremely simplistic, straightforward and highly empathetic, so I doubt it has anything to do with actual psychopathy.

With that being said though, she also reads like twice as much as I do. The devours books, whereas I tend to take my sweet time getting through one.

>> No.22820062

Books are meant to be read, if they're in pristine condition then they haven't been. That doesn't mean abuse them but a read book should show signs of wear.
