I want to read Cormac McCarthy for the prose but I am a Christian and violent stuff like The Road and Blood Meridian are not viable for me. Does he have anything not too carnal? I have Cities of The Plain from my dad. Is that any good?

There is a sort of redemption in it, with the kid turning into a Christian towards the end and repenting (although by now he’s probably “the man”).

Someone else recommended it but Faulkner I suppose is good, both as an influence on McCarthy who’s vaguely similar to him and as someone explicitly Christian.

idk abt this approach, I dont feel as if reading depictions of violence is necessarily something we have to avoid (fellow ortho). But, if you're set on that, maybe read the sunset limited, screenplay he wrote, the movie based on it is really good so i assume the screenplay is.
