It would've been better if it was.
Also that's a grammatically incorrect sentence lmao!

Just typical YA schlock. It is dreadfully smutty for a novel marketed at teens and tweens. I think a lot of moms would be utterly abhorred to know that their daughters read this shit. Maas' truly smutty series though is 'A Court of Thorns and Roses'. It's atrocious.
The Throne of Glass series on the flip side tries to strike a middle ground between smut and relationship drama on the one hand and a poorly devised fantasy plot on the other. The MC is an extremely unpleasant bitch that treats her boyfriend like a dog and her friends like trash. She also keeps getting humiliated by the antagonists all the time and doesn't even get to destroy the antagonists herself. As I said. Typical YA schlock. These people can write exactly one type of main character and one type of story. Unfortunately for them, it is not even an interesting type.

Both sound dreadful. I'm not a prude, but authors rarely write decent smut/sex no pun intended

I think a friend of mine has read that series. Honestly most of the fiction I read nowadays is either fanfiction of series I already like along with manga and comics.
I was at Walmart the other day and saw this YA vampire book and the cover alone had me thinking "Stephanie Meyer is gonna sue a bitch"

>>22750516
It's not even intended to be decent, it's vulgar trash. I guess some of it can be cute, but particularly the stuff that revolves around the main characters, and particularly COTR, is shockingly vulgar. If you were to look for shit like this on the web you might need to dig fairly deep.

It's not straight up smut, no. There's story to it. But it has smut in it. There's a bunch of sex scenes. There's some sex scenes that have a "primal nature" theme. And there's at least one sex scene that involves bondage. That's in the Throne of Glass series.
>>22750582
It's marketed a bit more broadly than that. This stuff is always written by 30-40 year old women though, and that is an important factor. There ethnicity is a separate subject.

Yeah, mostly the same shit whites do, that is to say, YA schlock. Or slop, if you prefer. I know a bunch of black girls who read and all they read is smut, romance and YA stuff. Black and Hispanic guys just read light novels, just like white guys. And that's basically it.
Then there is us.

It is unironically a Mary Sue fanfiction where the MC has most of the male character’s attention, everyone who doesn’t agree with her is wrong or gets converted to her side, everyone that is relevant has a heterosexual relationship, and she’s the chosen one mixed snowflake and most powerful being on the planet who just btfo’s anyone who doesn’t agree with her. It is probably the most frustrating MC I’ve ever read but girls love the self insertion and girl power. I don’t care if characters are bitches but if the story frames them as always in the right it is a dreadful experience. My favorite pet is when a country of POC we never get to see are killed for her bs because it was cathartic for her to actually face consequences and suffer. Believe it or not her other books are worse.

I think you should do some of your own research, anon. Go and look which YA books have smut in them, how popular they are, what type they have, how much of the book is smut etc. Judging from a few of the big titles, having a few sex scenes is not uncommon. General erotic content that falls short of penetrative sexual acts but may in fact depict even more vulgar stuff would be even more common than that, IMO.

> After a year of slavery in the Salt Mines of Endovier, Celaena Sardothien was accustomed to being escorted everywhere in shackles and at sword-point. Most of the thousands of slaves in Endovier received similar treatment—though an extra half-dozen guards always walked Celaena to and from the mines. That was expected by Adarlan’s most notorious assassin. What she did not usually expect, however, was a hooded man in black at her side—as there was now.

I'll just state the obvious. This post was clearly written by a woman in an attempt to give the illusion of male-approval to her favorite smut series. Most likely a man she respected made fun of her for reading it. She said, "Men enjoy it too!" The man righfully doubter her. She made the fake post, and then triumphantly showed it to him. Hopefully, the man accused her of posting it herself.
Fuck women.

Incorrect. A Mary Sue is a female character who is treated like God's gift to the world and any flaws they have are cursory and not really a hindrance. They are never wrong and always justified. They rarely face consequences, even for their mistakes and if they do, it's handwaved away easily.

Mary Sues (like the Gary Stu) are the literary version of Scrappy Doo, someone the author desperately wants us to like but acts in a way that makes them more hateable.

I went through a paranormal romance phase like 10 years ago. The actual adult smut shit, not YA, though apparently the YA stuff has sex scenes now too? Good for them.
Its ok, you get a fun story that doesn't take itself too seriously and you can jerk off a few times too. I liked how there's almost never any moral relativism its straight up "our team = good. their team = bad, lets fucking murder them"
That said I agree, the reddit post is either written by a woman or a very feminine man, like what's up with mentioning Taylor Swift out of nowhere? lmfao
