What are the best arguments for the existence of a God?

>> No.22731893

Unironically, argument from contingency. But it only works if you accept the principle of sufficient reason, which I reject personally

The ontological argument is the only actual argument.

If God doesn’t exist, then all things are possible.
If all things are possible, then God exists.

"Best" is going to be somewhat subjective, as different people are going to be moved in different ways by different arguments. However, in terms of arguments which have rich history and thorough discussion by philosophers even still today, here are some of the most common:

The Kalam Cosmological argument:

1- Everything that begins to exist has a cause.
2- The universe began to exist.
3- Therefore, the universe has a cause.

the argument from the fine tuning of the universe:

1- The fine-tuning of the initial conditions of the universe is due to either physical necessity, chance, or design.
2- The fine-tuning is not due to physical necessity or chance.
3- Therefore, the fine-tuning is due to design.

Okay then why is the god of storms Yahweh and his dead rabbi son Yeshua bar Yosef who are this “God” which you proclaim exists by necessity?

>1- Everything that begins to exist has a cause.
That means god must have a cause too. Why are theists so retarded?

and we know this how?

>2- The fine-tuning is not due to physical necessity or chance.
again, this is demonstrable how?

Why are you making it my responsibility to guide you to salvation, OP? Do I come to you and ask anything?

Nah. Existence is not a predicate. Obviously you can’t just define something into existence. It needs to be confirmed experimentally.

I disagree.

yet you believe that the universe came from nothing, very curious...

1: Either it's metaphysically impossible for Descartes evil demon to exist or it's metaphysically possible for Descartes evil demon to exist. (Premise)
2: If it's metaphysically impossible for Descartes evil demon to exist, then god existing is the only explanation. (Premise)
3: If it's metaphysically possible for Descartes evil demon to exists, then no knowledge is certain. (Premise)
4: God exists or it's metaphysically possible for descartes evil demon to exist (1,2,3)
5: It's certain that I have a hand. (Standard Moorean argument) (Premise)
6: It's not metaphysically possible for Descartes evil demon to exist. (3,5)
7: God exists (5,6)

define an object p which looks exactly like jabba the hut, is right behind you, is clearly visible, and exists. Does he now exist?
