>The Way of a Pilgrim, or The Pilgrim's Tale, is the English title of a 19th-century Russian work, recounting the narrator's journey as a mendicant pilgrim while practicing the Jesus Prayer. The pilgrim's travels take him through southern and central Ukraine, Russia, and Siberia. It is unknown if the book is literally an account of a single pilgrim, or if it uses a fictional pilgrim's journey as a vehicle to teach the practice of ceaseless inner prayer and communion with God

The author himself is kind of a mystery as well. Nobody seems to know what happened to him after the war, although i found an obituary claiming he died in California in his late 80s. Apparently some of his relatives are still alive but ibe been unable to contact them so far.

Not directly about the Russian civil war, but Blood and Oil in the Orient is a great read about how the communist revolution affected the surrounding countries such as Azerbaijan, Georgia, etc.

It was written by an Azerbaijani refugee who had a fairly tragic life himself, and reads like a mixture of tall tales, legends, bs that he invented on the spot, and anthropology. Highly recommend it.

>Not only that, but they spout some shit about selling "hand-bound editions of literary classics",
Thats fair. When it started i was getting into book binding and jewelery so i had an idea of making fancy art books with faceted gemstones and silver/gold detailing, but im extremely poor so i decided to move to mexico and go all in on the publishing side until i have the funds for a proper workshop. Ill fix that next time i update the site.

Sorry, homie. But yeah, don't send your money to these guys. It looks like they have a partial translation on their Substack, which is what you get when you click "ebook" on their website (lame). If that ever gets completed, I'd rip it in full; you can put your own files onto a site like Lulu if you're desperate for a print copy. I'm also noticing now how their cover for it is a cheap rip-off of the real one.

>>22732936
>admitting you're shilling
Nice one.

Again, please fuck off with the duplicitous shilling. If your work isn't just machine-translated trash, at least be honest when you advertise it on here; say you (admit it's you) have translated something into English for the first time and see if people are interested. The last thing this place needs is another fag trying to make a buck by samefagging endlessly hoping for fools to pass by.

And please do something about your covers. Going the Gallimard route and nailing a consistent design would be miles better than the unreadable shit you're wrapping around these things. Your yellow covers are okay-ish, so start there. Make sure people can actually read the text well without having to fucking squint.

>>22732957
>i wouldnt fuck you over like that
Saying "hand bound" then dumping it off on Lulu is exactly that, even if only fools won't notice

And are these just machine-translated? because it looks you're translating from French, Italian, and Chinese at the very least. I'm not actually going to believe you if you said you did it all yourself considering you've proven yourself to be a vapid liar.

Anyway, quit being a retard.

>> No.22733047

Also, concerning "fan translation", academics like Timothy Cheek did whole podcast circuts and didnt even notice that one of the most commonly used terms in AAA is a direct Chinese equivalent of Hegel's "giest", or that he wrote an entire chapter on the American heartlands which was mistranslated as "vernacular landscapes", or that he wrote another chapter about Max Weber which was similarily mistranslated, or that he mentions Gustav Le Bon's "The Crowd" which is also missed. And thats not even getting into all the literary flourishes and dropping couplets from Chinese poetry that are skipped over. Timothy Cheek says that the DeepL translation is "good enough". Ive spent years of my life crawling into Wang Huning's head and we have a similar background in french literature studies. Without any exageration im probably the #1 scholar on Wang Huning in the western word. If i wanted to make a quick buck i would have published the deep L translation thats selling on Amazon now.

Its in the style of the original but if you think about it its a clever take on it. Step back for a second and look at the cover again, when you see it, you'll get the joke.

>Again, please fuck off with the duplicitous shilling. If your work isn't just machine-translated trash, at least be honest when you advertise it on here; say you (admit it's you) have translated something into English for the first time and see if people are interested.
Ive never claimed otherwise. Not samefagging either. Where in this thread did i ever pretend to be anyone im not The reason we're even having this interrogation is because im being upfront about it.

>If that ever gets completed, I'd rip it in full; you can put your own files onto a site like Lulu if you're desperate for a print copy
Ill put a free ebook on my website, so just go ahead and bookmark it. It'll save you both a lot of time.

>And please do something about your covers. Going the Gallimard route and nailing a consistent design would be miles better than the unreadable shit you're wrapping around these things.
These books are designed for print, not for a tiny jpg on amazon. I dont like the trend of trying to design covers for viewing on a phone, and there are hundreds of publishing companies doing a "classic" style of design. Im just having fun with it and trying new things.

>And are these just machine-translated? because it looks you're translating from French, Italian, and Chinese at the very least.
Ive been pretty transparent about my process and ive got a substack article on the way that will go into more detail about it. Pretty sure we've had this conversation before even. I speak fluent french and spanish, passible italian, and the chinese is building off the machine translated version by going over it with a good dictionary, a fine tooth comb, some chinese friends, and a lot of cultural context about the (mostly continental european) philosphers Wang Huning is refering to. I will admit that i take a lot of liberties with the chinese poetry he occassionally quotes, because its fun and id like to have some sort of rhyme/rhythm to them.

>These books are designed for print, not for a tiny jpg on amazon
You're a megatard. Having faint text on visually busy backgrounds isn't going to read well in print, and is awful no matter the format. Your designs in general are mediocre at best, more often tacky, and most often just shit. Setting yourself apart by sucking is not what you want to do.

I second this with caveats, Epictetus mostly addresses the principles behind correct behaviour and actually criticises his students for asking his advice on specific issues they have. He's the most broadly applicable but also the most strict, he asks a lot of you and if don't do it you're a fool. Seneca was writing to his friends so he's much more gentle and understanding. Marcus Aurelius is a journal edited for public consumption, possibly the most accessible but very scattershot.

I know, but it should nonetheless show that most Christians aren't white. The only people who still give a fuck about Christianity are Americans and Africans, with the amount of Northern American Christians decreasing too iirc. It's just irritating to see delusional Christcucks acting if this were not the case.

I see you in literally every thread that has any kind of self-promotion in it, its pretty obvious that you actively monitor these threads. When its corporate drones like Peterson somehow that's acceptable though. You're clearly trying to derail any kind of organic writing movement coming out of /lit/.

I've seen this guy shilling his shitty press and called him out on it when he's obviously been samefagging. It's not like that makes me a fan of the coombait and the other assorted trash you bring up; best you can do is report that and move along. But when it's someone secretly ("secretly" being the key word) trying to sell something, it's not so easy, and they ought to be called out for it.

If you read through what I said, you'd see that I'm fine with honest self-promotion. If somebody says it's their book and they're trying to sell it, fine by me. But it's shitty to be dishonest about it and resort to actual shill tactics. Saying this guy is part of any "organic writing movement" when he's shilling like this is stupid. (I mean "shilling" in the real sense as fake enthusiasm for a product, not as the usual catch-all for self-promotion.)

>I see you in every thread that has self-promotion
Do you really think I'm the only guy who doesn't like shills? What other threads are you even talking about? I post in some project-related threads, but it's definitely not all negative. I've bought books from /lit/ authors and contributed to projects, if that means anything.
