I've found myself enthralled by a number of films relating to the modern Jewish identity, anti-semitism and similar issues. Specifically 'The Believer' (2001), 'A Serious Man' (2009), and even some Woody Allen films, in a way.

I come to you, /lit/ in search of any literature you might find relevant to this topic. I come here rarely, so forgive me if it seems I haven't come to the right place. I'm really not looking for anything to do with the holocaust or Israel, mainly to do with Jewish-American disapora.

Also, if you were assuming so, I'm not a fucking racist or anything like that. I think anyone with half a brain can understand that the Jewish people are a particularly interesting ethnoreligious group in the modern world.

tl;dr Literature pertaining to Jewish-American identity, Jewish diaspora, anti-semitism, etc.

The big names in Jewish-American literature are Bellow, Malamud and Roth.

Recommendations for each:

Bellow: Herzog, Ravelstein
Malamud: The Fixer, the short stories
Roth: pretty much anything. Some of my favorites are Portnoy's Complaint, Zuckerman Bound, Operation Shylock and Sabbath's Theater. My Life as a Man is also a great book, though the Jewish themes seem to play a slightly lesser role.

If you understand Russian, French or German, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's Two Hundred Years Together is a great book on the history of Russian-Jewish relations. Unfortunately, an English translation is currently unavailable.

I recently finished The Chosen People by Richard Lynn, which I guess can be considered a work of social science that attempts to document and explain the remarkable success of the Jewish people. I thought it was pretty interesting.

Well, ''Herzog'' is interesting, though when I first read it it felt like a cut-to-lenth autobiography. It's intellectual in that particular cultural-critic way. Maybe Walter Benjamin.
I know Hilary Putnam writes about this stuff, and he's a good guy.
