It’s been a bit since I’ve read it but I remember the ending being ambiguous. Maybe the judge is a symbol, a metaphysical entity, a real character, or some combination of them. The only thing I’m certain of is that the man killed the bear girl. McCarthy drew attention to her, and her parents search for her, and the dwarf prostitute hints at pedo tendencies in the man. He was suppressing them and the dwarf episode hinting at them starting to rise to the surface. The man had avoided a life of violence for years but in the end the judge caught up with him. In this regard he is symbolic. The judge always gets too much attention IMO. The preacher character (is it Toadvine?) begs a deeper look into. The epilogue of the stakes being planted is more interesting than the dancing judge IMO. Like I said, it’s been a long time since I read it but I seem to removed thinking it was either railroad track spikes, or some symbolism to do with Christ, aka the preacher character

I think the epilogue is supposed to be them searching for oil in them holes, and thus portraying this idea of the cycle starting all over with a new prize to wage war over.

book sucks, author sucks. would not write about violence in such a manner if he had ever experienced it. its tacky, like bloody ww2 films.

Said the limp wristed faggot from his mother's basement. You sure as hell has no idea what violence is like, meanwhile the book is as historically accurate as was possible.

Yeah you see the juxtaposition in Faulkner, a dude who clearly saw fucked up shit which is why Joe Christmas for example is able to seriously disturb you all the more cause he's not revelling in it he's as disturbed as you are he's not just writing saying "when they killed this guy this was really gross and cold-hearted you guys" he's trying to make a better outcome for the universal subconscious and repair the schism, which is what mccarthy just overlooks cause he's a MONEY HUNGRY SCUM FUCK, nah I liked suttree i jest. They both emote the universes/gods vengeance or just karma if you're a hinduboo its just Faulkner does it more believably and with a wider berth of themes, anyone can emulate McCarthy's le mystical prose but it takes real divinity to hope of cracking Faulkner he simply didnt occupy the same fucking universe as anyone, ever.

Yeah no one said it wasn't historically accurate chaos is the governing law of the universe ovid already explained it thousands of fucking years ago but what else is it aside from historically accurate? As I said Faulkner was concerned with what came after that revalation, as in real revelatory writing FUCK I need to read absalom

I don't expect some hillbilly soap opera shitter to have read the book let alone what it is trying to convey. Comparing cuckner to McCarthy as a thinker is like comparing peterson to Plato. Your brain's too small for what isn't bumbled in shitty stream of consciousness about "muh south". Nobody cares for cuckner in the 21st century for the same reason. Also, you write lika 12 year old who just read his 1st book.

Joe Christmas didn't frighten anyone but other quadroons. This is video game toer reasoning for good writing. Fuck off.

He's kind of right. The scene where a nigger decapitates a white in camp in one fell swoop with some shitty hunter knife and the body stays upright until morning with blood gushing out of it and staining it whole is laughable. He nailed it most times but in very rare scenarios he inexplicably goes full Tarantino.
