Banning a book is kind of like responding to annoying bait, when you do, more people end up seeing it and reading it. If you want it to go away just let it wither and die on the vine.

We should have a thread in which we all post a book that somehow slipped through the censorship net in Europe and didn't get banned.

Here is my contribution. A book published in German (and English) that has a accurate historiography of the second world war.

Learning French for many reasons but one is to buy a cheap copy of this book :^)

I just found a copy of this at my local Goodwill and picked it up for $0.50. They did not know what they had.

If they ban it, there is a chance it will enter the public conciousness and then people in Europe will put 2 + 2 together.

Ideological works are not really banned anymore. If it gets public attention, it might be pulled from printing and/or stores to avoid the negative PR, but look around and I'm sure you'll find the most moralist liberal retailers stock books calling for extermination of jews or saying women have, in fact, been treated too well historically or some such verboten contrazeitgeist thought. Only things that are really banned are banned by secret police/intelligence agencies for prematurely exposing them or jeopardizing favoured politicans' careers. Also sometimes books that truly and genuinely instruct/order violence against the powerful.

Book banning is just not relevant anymore, at least in most cases. Common people will do and believe as they are told, and these works aren't relevant to the powerful.
