I think it is logical to read the book written by the author of this game, Robert Kurvitz.

While googling read:

Robert Kurvitz(born 8 October 1984) is an Estonian novelist, video game designer, and musician. He was the lead designer of the 2019 video gameDisco Elysiumas a founding member of the ZA/UM cultural association and the eponymousvideo game developmentcompany that grew out of it. Kurvitz was fired from ZA/UM in 2022, alongside Disco Elysium's Lead Art Director Aleksander Rostov, after the majority stake in ZA/UM was acquired by Estonian businessmen Ilmar Kompus and Tőnis Havel.

Signalis

One of those artsy retro indie games where the jank is intentional. Reminds me a lot of the anime/manga that were popular around the turn of the millennium like Gunslinger Girls, Serial Experiments Lain, Chobits/Angelic Layer, and so on and so forth. A lot of focus on liminality between humanity and machinery, vaguely psychoanalytic, ostensibly theological, as well as a plot that left the viewer more melancholic than anything. I'm a big fan of video games where the medium is handmaiden to a discursive narrative. I liked the understated worldbuilding of Signalis.

this is genuinely my first ten mins lurking here but i haven't gone out of my way to read a book in legitimately probably like 10+ years (i'm 20, it would've been some kids book or some shit)

are there any books that are basically just are a twist on real historical things? ala assassins creed lore shit, with everything major that happened in human history was in one way or another involving pieces of the ISU/apple of eden etc etc.
thanks bros

Mine is the original Resident Evil. I hate zombie fiction, so let's steer away from that. Resi Evil offers way more than zombies anyway. I really enjoy stories that feature biological creatures and stories that take themselves seriously (I know Resi is infamous for it's silly voice acting), to me it's about the broad strokes.

Books I've already read that capture what I'm looking for:
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
Relic by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Childe
Watchers by Dean Koontz
White Shark by Peter Benchley

hell, even the Southern Reach trilogy scratches some of that (government lead investigation into a supernatural event).

Please no shitty book series that have a million volumes, I prefer one and done novels by authors who take this seriously.

loved enderal. spent 93 hours playing it... got stuck in the final level because an elevator refused to come down. looked it up and turns out that just happens sometimes and I was soft locked.

>Once you start categorizing intrinsically pleasurable things as a 'waste of time'

What if I told you that there is things that are both pleasurable and not a waste of time?

I have played video games for a long long time and I know its a complete waste of time. Compared to many other pleasurable things that actually give you something in return for time invested video games give you nothing but a hollow feeling... And minimum 20 extra kilograms of fat.

The Last Policeman is possibly the worst novel I've read in the past five years. It takes an interesting premise for a detective story and just runs it straight into the ground.
Your run-of-the-mill episode of SVU or Medium is literally an order of magnitude more interesting and competently made than this stillbirth of a book.
