This is now a HCSB-onlyist thread.

Removes the archaisms, preserves meaning while remaining accessible, it's based on pretty solid Anglophone scholarship, and it's still pretty beautiful even though aesthetics isn't the main goal. Most of the criticisms are minute preferences or just a general rejection of Protestantism prima facie. Although I'll just be cliché and emphasize the best translation is the one you actually read. I like the KJV well enough and use it as a baseline since it's commonly used even today.

Matthew 8:2, HCSV says Jesus shouldn't be worshipped

These are synonyms, the latter is too unspecific, not reflecting the original idea to the modern reader

These are synonyms, the latter is too flowery for the modern reader

Could have something to do with different Greek manuscripts, haven't looked into it

In the end, KJV is NOT the original, it is just another translation. You have to make comparisons with the Greek version directly if you want to nit-pick.

Checked. I'm no fan of Protestant translations but this kind of hair splitting has always seemed kind of ridiculous even if fascinating. Although I can't say I haven't debated a lot of Christological heretics who basically treat their dynamic translation they got for free at a Unitarian fellowship to be Aquinas.

Good points, anon. Here are a few more examples just for reference:

In Matthew 1:25, the HCSB removes the word "firstborn" based on different Greek manuscript:
>but did not know her intimately until she gave birth to a son. And he named Him Jesus.
KJV:
>And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

In Matthew 19:9, the HCSB is missing the entire phrase at the end, "and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery."

KJV:

In Matthew 25:31, the HCSB is missing the word "holy" in front of angels. But that implies that non-holy, or fallen, angels are going to be there with Christ.

KJV:

Notice the word "holy" in the KJV here. Big difference.

One more change, just to focus a bit more on Matthew (there are just as many in other books). In Matthew 27:24, the HCSB removes the word "just" from Pilate's testimony concerning Christ. This passage has no parallel in the other Gospels, either. Pilate only says it here in Matthew.
>When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that a riot was starting instead, he took some water, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. See to it yourselves!”
KJV:

If I buy a cambridge leather Bible am I getting the kind of paper that you get in a typical bible?
The only bibles I own are a free KJV bible, the oxford study bible and a collins hardback NRSV bible

KJV is pretty good. I read Douay-Rheims so that I'm in conformity with the translation in most missals and offices.
