To be honest I have noticed that the people who obsess over LOTR the most are not pagans, but Christians. They find out Tolkien was a Catholic and then look for Christ in every paragraph. Pagans tend to obsess over the Havamal and the Poetic Edda as they are the only things they seem to have.

But other than that it's a great book. I personally love the descriptions of nature.

>> No.22465265

Wasn't that the intent? Tolkien wanted to be the English Lönnrot but since the old english oral tradition was long gone he made up his own folk lore. It's obviously way better than any semitic mythology, but then again that doesn't require much.

name 10 slop writers excluding Tolkein from the 30s-50s that are still as talked about as him.
Not to sound Reddit, but will you lot still talk like this when his epic is still discussed in 2050? How much more time do you Pseudo-Bloomian retards require for something to become a "classic".
Oh, "nothing will become a classic" because of some trite reference to Spengler...okay. Have fun wit h that nigger.

Christendom never mattered. Only Christianity did. Some random dude's soul has no bearing on anything except himself. You should separate the Church from culture. It is a witness and light to culture, but when that culture eventually, it doesn't drag down the Church with it.
It's partly why St. Augustine wrote the City of God. He had to correct a fellow who thought the downfall of Rome was the downfall of everything.

George Martin, the American Tolkien, superseded the real tolkien decades ago. The reason is simple: he writes about reality, not elves or (*cough* antisemitic *cough*) dwarves or how amazing living in the forests is, he writes about blood and semen and shit and rape and violence, about real fantasy.

Well, I wasn’t saying I think that it’s right. But to me it’s pretty obvious that progressivism is some sort of neochristianity. Progressivism was able to completely take over the intellectual and moral universe of the West because it shipped itself as an immanent fulfillment of Christian promises. It basically turned Christianity into a backwater regressive religion remembered for intolerance and superstition. It was able to do this by appropriating a bunch of Christian ethics but exorcizing God out of the equation, convincing itself that its moral intuitions were the product of reason rather than being descended from reformed Protestantism
