I didn't buy it, though.

Buying books is an antiquated notion--something my grandparents did.

Have to reread I, Claudius and Claudius the God so I can watch the BBC series so I can not look like a lying jackass to my Latin professor

Have to finish Dune

I'd like to crack Canterbury Tales and Herodotus but I keep playing vidya instead

Who are these people who study Latin in college? My school system taught that in middle school...

I really envy you and classical education in general. It's actually an elective continuing studies course that's going to cost me $2k by the end of it.

Used to be that "Latin is for boys, Greek is for men," now you're lucky to even find bilinguals in universities. Better late than never, I guess.

Last night I ordered:
Invitation to a Beheading-Nabokov
The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Wizard: The Life and Times of Nikola Tesla

Tried to get Pale Blue Dot too, but I think it may not be available in the UK. Oh well, my birthday is in a couple days and I will probably be getting some money for it.

>> No.2243810

'The War of the Worlds' and 'Dubliners' will tide me over until Christmas, when I'll receive a few books from my dad (one or two from a list I gave him* and a couple of his own picks).

*list containing: 'Pierre: or, The Ambiguities', 'The Complete Cosmicomics', 'The Lost Estate', 'No Longer Human' and 'Consider the Lobster'.

Other than some manga I've got: The Jungle, Storm of Swords, Ada or Ardor and the Selfish Gene

>> No.2243859

Howards End, EM Forster
The Go-Between, LP Hartley

>> No.2243915

>Primeval and Other Times by Olga Tokarczuk
>Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass by Bruno Schulz
>Gitanjali by Rabindranath Tagore
>The Melancholy of Resistance by Laszlo Krasznahorkai
>The Sufferings of Prince Sternenhoch by Ladislav Klima
>In Light of Shadows by Izumi Kyoka

For Christmas buys, I'm probably going to have to find some things that are likely to be available at Barnes & Noble. My local one is pretty small.

Got no internet back home so I'm literally ordering everything I want this year:
Lolita by Nabokov (read half of it a year ago but exams and then holidays got in the way)
Gravity's Rainbow (the edition in the uni library is ancient so I'm going to get my own)
Norwegian Wood by Murakami (always wanted to read it)
Ficciones by Borges (not in the library)
and probably either/both of Mason and Dixon and The Old Man and the Sea

>> No.2244017

Prolly gonna order a fuckload of Dover Thrift editions and use the library.. although I'm worried about having an imbalanced number of Dover books in my collection :;3

>> No.2244020

>>2244017
i don't mind dover some times other publishers just bloat up what should be a tiny 5 dollar book with shitty b-tier output by the author as extras or some random essays written by some asshole professor just to bloat it up to 300 pages so they can justify charging 16 bucks for it.

>> No.2244019

>>2244017
What are some Dover editions that you recommend?

>> No.2244029

>>2244019
anything you want breh just go on their website or something
>>2244020
word, fuck other publishers, I'm paying for the text not a pretty cover and, like you said, some prologue and afterword written by a douchey professor with info I can get online

>> No.2244035

>Cigarettes Are Sublime
>The Life of Samuel Johnson

and that's all I've got so far, I've read a fuck ton of fiction in the past couple of months so I think I'll go a little light on that.
