In other countries it can be indeed quite different. Where I live (Southern Cone) any woman would rather date a short attractive man than a tall ugly one, and even than a tall less attractive one. Lots of well-known male sex symbols, actors etc., in the 170-75cm range, even though there's no particular lack of tall guys, it's just that what matters is having attractive body/face.
Of course, once you're shorter than 170cm it becomes increasingly more of a nuisance, and fewer women would date a 160-165cm man, although even then...
