The race of the nigger in the story immediately prejudiced me but I didn't interpret his reply as a slight. It's sometimes a mistake to assume people are actively listening. The black man was simply going through the motions, performing the ritual cargo cult conversation he has observed many white folks engage in on the subway before. He had already made up his mind: the Plato reader WAS an intellectual; he was reading Plato after all. Now he had all his utterances in order, no matter what might be said in return.

Having a bad relationship with your mother will mess up anyone. That's the one relationship above all others that you're supposed to be able to count on, and if you can't, you'll have a very hard time learning to trust or love anyone else. We joke about the chess chammpion Bobby Fischer, we say that he is "based" for making comments which are anti-semitic and insulting to women, and even for saying naughty things about 9/11. But the plain truth of the matter is that he had a very erratic personality, and his psychology was not helped by the fact of his poor relationship with his mother. She was a far left commie type, and she should not have engaged in the political activities that she did, it's true. But that aside, Fischer would have been a much happier man if he had been able to have a decent relationship with his mother. Would this have made him a "normie"? Might he have had a better chance at regular sex or a long term gf? Would it have softened him to the point that he would never have been champion? All of these are entirely possible. But he would also have been happier.

That's why what you're doing is cope, anon. Did the meme poking fun at your idol's mommy issues upset you? Yeah, so you cope by pretending a joke relating to her lived success and his angsty failure is erased because he's now known by 0.000000001% of humanity and read by even less. However, the fact he didn't live to see such success (I'll give you that much) renders it ultimately meaningless to both of their attitudes in life.

Multiple posts into a pointless argument because you're upset by a meme. This is probably why /lit/ produces so few.

Despite all the absurdity contained here, the thing that stands out to me as being most strongly so is just the use of the word 'Hyperborean'. At this point it's something so completely tied up in what others would call 'alt-right internet incel' circles, who mostly use the term because it just sounds really cool ('hyper-', but used in an ancient sense that seems really out there to people used to it being a more sci-fi thing) and comes with 'based' and 'trad' connotations while adding a grand and hermetic sense to some vague notion of 'super-Europeans', the secrets of which that the basement dweller users of the words want to feel privy to.

It's amusing to see how the word has blown up in this way.

>Schopenhauer was able to publish an enlarged second edition to his major work in 1843, which more than doubled the size of the original edition. The new expanded edition earned Schopenhauer no more acclaim than the original work. He published a work of popular philosophical essays and aphorisms aimed at the general public in 1851 under the title, Parerga and Paralipomena (Secondary Works and Belated Observations). This work, the most unlikely of his books, earned him his fame, and from the most unlikely of places: a review written by the English scholar John Oxenford, entitled “Iconoclasm in German Philosophy,” which was translated into German. The review excited an interest in German readers, and Schopenhauer became famous virtually overnight. Schopenhauer spent the rest of his life reveling in his hard won and belated fame, and died in 1860.

I find it interesting that people focus on either case. Either Schopenhauer being pushed down the stairs by his mother and telling he's failure. Or Schopenhauer telling her that she will be remembered only because of him.
Overall complexity is not the thing, its either one being the "chad yes", and other the crying "cuck". I don't expect it from jokes, but in serious threads too.

I'm not actually against 'European pride' or honest investigation into the ancient north at all, and I hate SJW types who try to shame people over this. I actually agree the Hyperborean is a fucking cool word, which is why I understand people are attracted to using it, but I'm just sick of it being over used in shallow ways that sully it and associate it with pathetic ideas, similar to how *actual* Neo Nazis can associate cringe with otherwise respectable traditions. It just stands out here as something only a channer would think to use.

Schopenhauer knew that in a hundred years' time, people would read his books while his mother's drivel would be forgotten, and he was entirely right. Also, because of his essay on women people like to pretend he was an autistic incel when he was not. He had a son out of wedlock, there are at least 3 romantic relationships that we know of, one of which with an opera singer 20 years his junior, and when he travelled through Europe on his Grand Tour with a friend, they went to parties to pick up women.
The idea that Schopenhauer was "unsuccessful" with women comes from two misrepresented facts:
1) he complained that women didn't seem to like him. But the context here is that he was travelling with his friend, who, by all accounts, was much more charismatic and handsome than himself. So he complained about not getting as much pussy as his Chad friend. You better believe that independently-wealthy-from-a-young-age-aristocrat Schopenhauer fucked his share of women.
2) his rejection by a girl on a Berlin boat trip. Infamous, because she recorded in her diary that "old man Schopenhauer" disgusted her. But this is an episode when Schopenhauer was 50+ or something, hitting on a 19 year old girl. Yeah she rejected him, so what? Does this single rejection make it so that he's "unsuccessful" with women? Casanova himself got rejected dozens of times. Was he unsuccessful with women?

If OP is American then the whole "That's why you read Plato" jab is probably a friendly sort of ribbing like saying "good on you for taking time to read Plato" rather than a derisive jab.

Of course, the man's true intentions cannot be divined from two brisk remarks relayed in greentext. But I like to believe in the innate friendliness of people, especially burgers.

How the fuck do they get away with advocating pedophilia? You'd think it would be as socially damaging to someone's credibility as being openly racist or being pro-rape...it basically is pro-rape. How the fuck do they get away with it? I've seen shit arguing "errr, it's just commentary on power structures and they were combating fascism and ridding the world of colonialism, BLAAA." I get how fellow travelers can filter out things until it's right in their face but how the fuck did these guy get away with straight up advocating this shit? What the actual fuck. How?

I honestly don't. Dawkins got raked over the coals for downplaying something he personally experienced. Even with that as an excuse he still go torn up pretty bad by the media. That conservative leaning historian who writes on Indian Affairs in Canada (Tom Flanagan??) got canceled over something similar as well. They tried to get that Matt Walsh guy because he said women used to get married in their mid-teens in the 1800s. Off the top of my head there's three. So how the fuck do Foucault & co. just go under the reader when they didn't simply say something dumb but openly advocated it? It's shocking. Allen Ginsberg too.

I live in the West so it's too risky. I'd probably just get put on a list by employers and intelligence agencies for no gain at all. Even if we assume Dugin is hiring intelligent grifters, he wouldn't even be able to pay me since the Russian banks got disconnected from the Western financial infrastructure.
Once upon a time I really wanted to be a political grifter, but honestly I don't think it's worth it for me. I have the ability for it, but most of the people in my sphere are actually just larpers with bad character, and exposing myself to physical and financial danger for a crowd I can't even respect is simply not worth it.

No, I think that one's correct. IIRC he got in trouble for being insufficiently woke on jazz. Since he's made some crazy statements about jazz lol. That greentext is just deceptive. He wasn't the type of hero that would fit with the 21st century milieu that the post is referring to. Adorno would be perfectly at home at a modern postcolonial studies or intersectional sociology department. The main difference between Adorno and contemporary leftism is less so the principles, and more so the fact that Adorno had a given amount of character, seriousness and intelligence.
