Looking to learn more about early Greek philosophy, intrigued by the idea that Pythagoras studied and learned from the Egyptians and Indians.

What are the best books to learn about Pythagoreanism? Preferably something not written and reedited over and over again by academics in a purely material way.

any particular texts you're thinking of? I know of the crossover between Pythagoras and Plato, for example, but I wouldn't know if what I was looking at was *from* Pythagoras or not.
as far as orthodoxy goes, I'm not familiar enough to know which scholars and texts to focus on besides The Philokalia

Pythagoreans were an esoteric sect and you will never understand it from books. It was an initiative cult and the continuous succession was lost during the Byzantine period. Orthodoxy is the only cult that preserves direct (apostolic) succession and the monks are still initiated and maintain esoteric knowledge. Pythagoreanism is pagan numerology that seeks and fails to find perfection in this world, you'll know it when you see it.
