Any books about someone being unable to get over unrequited love despite knowing it's retarded and that they'll never get the person they love but still unable to stop despite?

>The Great Gatsby
literal cuck book
he's this hot shot that amazes everyone because of how rich and mysterious he is, while in reality he's a desperate cuck that hasn't gotten over his necessity over this one girl for his entire life even if she married someone else and he had to take her away from him.

Just because there's a cuck in the book doesn't mean the book advocates cuckoldry

It's literally a book about how amazing it is to be a cuck and glorifies cuckoldry, as if it was fine to be a cuck for one's entire life as long as you get the girl in the end. It doesn't erase the fact that he was a cuck for the majority of his life, and that his entire personality and allure was because he was a cuck in denial. Old sport? Cuck!

>oh look at me I'm so amazing in every way and it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the girl I love and have been obsessed with during my entire life isn't with me haha it's totally not that I feel empty and want to impress people because of that haha no way no way!

He's this unreal and incredibly charismatic person, throws lavish parties that everyone clearly remembers, has status so high that is unmatched by anyone, a reputation that of a person that could as well not exist, all in vain as he was an empty shell of a person on the inside because none of these things actually mattered and the only reason why he did those things was to fill the void within with everything life can offer, but he only wanted the girl in the end and was willing to lower himself into absolutely nothing for a chance with her. The entire book is about how even for someone who might seem like he might have it all, maybe things are not quite as they seem always. If you didn't get the message, then you're the issue not me.

The book is made for brainlets, the message isn't very complex, it's all about delivery and the journey that ends with him getting the girl.
The Great Gatsby exists alone above all, there would be no Great Gatsby if he had the girl, his motive for being The Great Gatsby was literally just to compensate for the fact that he felt incomplete. This became even more evident when he got the opportunity to actually meet the girl, then all of a sudden he kept making stupid mistakes like that of a schoolboy around his first crush. Everything he had built up, all of the reputation he had of being ''the man'' withered away within seconds of being in contact with the woman he desired.

Love is a word we use in English to describe the effects of oxytocin in the brain. Anything more that is attributed to this word from a definition standpoint is just our own opinion on the matter. If a person ever realizes this (a lot don't) the idea of not mating with someone even if there is affection becomes largely no longer relevant. Any female can provide the release of the chemical in the brain provided proper circumstances.

Love is nowhere near the same type of phenomenon as knowledge. You are welcome to try and refute my original comment, I would heartily enjoy it, you can disagree with it as well if you like, that is entirely up to you, but it's a false equivalent to put love and knowledge on the same tier. Finding new applicable knowledge about something produces serotonin I believe, which is a different chemical effect on the brain, it is more closely associated to risk/reward behaviors.
