There are people here, right now, who think V. wasn't a coherent entity in the novel. They don't know it was one woman, the same woman, throughout.

I just re-read it. It really isn't.

Side note: it's impressive how much of an improvement lot 49 is over V.—and look, V. is still one of my all time favorite novels and I wouldn't call 49 one of my favorites, it's more of a compulsive interest that I re-read every year and listen to its audiobook every year too and read all the notes to too (I do this with V. and GR too) thanks for listening I guess. Reading I mean. Whatever. Have you noticed zoomers saying "whenever" for "when"? Does this deserve its own thread? There aren't many usage threads are there...

V is the least Pynchon of any of his novels I've read. Certainly because it's his first. It's basically just a weird and wild mystery novel with a few autistic quirks. V didn't delve into hysteria, insanity and paranoia the way his later novels did, particularly Crying and GR. It was also far less surreal. These combined are my favourite aspects of his writing, and why V didn't hit as hard for me. No one does paranoia like Pynchon (except maybe Kafka).
