Dear /lit/izens, for your reading pleasure, I present to you, the GOAT.
It is the greatest novel of all time and you can't dispute it.
>muh prose
fuck off.

I've read three dostoyevsky books and one of his shorts and didn't particularly like any of it. only really works if you relate to the characters on a moral and spiritual level. otherwise it comes off as as a morally insecure man trying to cope through fiction.

Literally how though? I read it and it was a bog-standard story with absolutely nothing special about it. And I'm not talking about the prose, I'm talking about the rest of what makes a novel a novel. There is nothing 'great' or 'magnificent' about it, it's just really long (and I like really long books) boring story with some good, interesting bits here and there, just not enough of them, nor any that do the rest justice.

I tried reading this book as a kid and after ten or 15 pages it became too heckin complicated. I look the word 'nihilist' too and didn't get it.

You can tell a lot about a man by which of the three brothers he relates to the most. I'm Mitya btw.

Dostoevsky's works are written for Christians by a Christian. If you're into a higher-level subjects such as Traditional metaphysics like me, then of course something so pointless as Dostoevsky will hold next-to-zero value or meaning.

Imagine thinking morality is not interesting or deep enough of a concept to write literature about lmao. It's literally the questions of how we should act and what we should do in life.

Not when religion is involved. Religion is the enemy of fiction. Oil and water.

I've gotten a lot more interesting and useful information on that subject from philosophical materials than I have from religious fiction.

Garnett's prose gets the job done, and is quite beautiful in its own right. P&Vfags need not apply.
