We have just read 1984 in my English class and need to write an essay about what is a recent major problem in the US. Any Ideas?

Write about the war. Havent read the book in a while, but wasnt there a part when they are fighting some nation for the longest time and then one day the governments like "Well, we're fighting these guys now" and then everyone's like "YEAH FUCK THEM! Kill em all!"
