Im looking for books that are over the top and just silly as all get out. I want to read something akin to the babble of schizos. Something wicked experimental. Something that spits in the face of MFAggots. Something that’s entertaining and funny.

Zazie dans le Métro but I'm not sure if it works if you don't read it in French

I thought Prometheus Rising was interesting but everything else I've seen of Wilson makes him look like a huge douchebag

Pretty much anything by David Wong, especially the John Dies at the End series

RAWs solo novels are mostly better than this, but less famous.

Schrodinger's Cat is basically a sequel to Illuminatus! but also much looser and trippy. Not my favourite, but it is his most freeform.

The Historical Illuminatus Chronicles are great fun and a little more tightly focused as Wilson leans more toward Eco than Pynchon/Joyce.

But his best book for sure is Masks of The Illuminati. It is the purest distillation of his ideas in narrative form in a self-contained, relatively short, novel.

You took the words out of my mouth, except I didn’t read the Historical Illuminatus Chronicles, but agree exactly on everything else, down to Masks of the Illuminati being the best novel of his I read so far (and by far). I’m always confused why his other novels are hardly ever talked about and only the Illuminatus! trilogy is.

Also, his best nonfiction books I’ve read so far are Cosmic Trigger I, Prometheus Rising, and (likewise underrated, like his other novels) The New Inquisition, which have a similar atmosphere and content to what OP is looking for.

Pynchon is kind of similar, Against the Day.

Nothing beats Illuminatus! for fiction but you should read Quantum Psychology, it's nonfiction but also written by Robert Anton Wilson and will leave you feeling schizophrenic but in a good way.
