We read this in leafland highschool not even a year after its release. The AP english teacher somehow got the approval -- to be fair, she's always been flirty with one of the board members that frequented.

Summary:

Lord of the flies is one of the few books I remember my entire class getting really into when it was assigned to us. The teacher even had different students reading each character's dialogue. It's also pretty short so it shouldn't intimidate kids who don't like reading.
