I'm reading a book right now that does this. I fucking just skipped to first chapter after I realize 1/10th of the whole book was everything before the actual content of the book start.

The Penguin version of The Iliad has 76 pages of introduction and another 70 at the end for translators notes. It's over 20% introduction and notes.
