The way that you are wrong about this is that is how you actually ‘escape the matrix’ and become fully developed and realized. Through work, commitment and labor without giving in to any sensual temptations. That’s how you actually gain respect from people and accomplish something real and long lasting. Most of humanity has given in to something. This is why Dostoyevsky is so wrong in his attempt to excuse man’s natural state. Every single one of his books he’s trying to come up with some way to accept something that’s just plain wrong and damaging for people about themselves. This is also why fiction is bad and doesn’t help anyway, because it is escapism. You have to work on more productive ideas and compromise with the people in order to create a fulfilling life on earth, a Heaven or a new Jerusalem, if you’re still religious. That’s what it’s all about and that’s the only way anything can have any meaning. You have to compromise with people’s sense of pride and commit yourself to them in order to gain respect for everyone. This self interest is the motivating factor that they tried (and failed) to teach you about in school. It’s commitment to these healthy ideas that are going to save the human race from poverty!
