Bunch of Shlock, made for autistic boomers who have model trains and civil war dioramas.

this was the first of Turtledove's alt south books i read and it was ok. i did n't care for the time travelling ak-47's* being the main pivot of the story. the rest of the books were much better and got me reading up on many major politicians from the late 19th century.

*only in the first book. you should still read it as it sets the table for a great dinner.

The only alt history stories I like are the ones that are well and truly bizarre and don't take themselves seriously like the monument mythos on yt, not a book but still.

the Atlantis trilogy is probably the next best he's got.
the alien invasion is...ok, i guess. i messed up and read some of the alt ww2 stuff at the same time and i still to this day, get the stories mixed up.
i haven't read any of his older fantasy novels. i'll get to them eventually (i've heard good things about the videssos series.)
