Why has Horror’s Call become increasingly unhinged? At this point it’s the edgiest book series ever written

Indeed. The 17th book in the series is heads and tails above the rest!
For 16 insufferable volumes, we were all assaulted by incredibly amateurish prose and plots, not to mention bafflingly incompetent spelling/grammar.
But with "Call Of United Airlines", the quality has taken a great leap forward!
It's the usual self-insert main character, and a meandering dream-like plot, but you can't expect all of Gardner's problems to get solved in one go.
Still, this is a worthy effort, and is the first step to redeeming an otherwise unremarkable series of brain-droppings.
Definitely start with this one.
