Not only was Euthyphro in the wrong but he is not even a real person. He was a caricature of a zealous religious dolt and his name means the equivalent of “smooth brain” in attic Greek. You’re defending a parody character.

It doesn't. Sure, Plato's mocking a character named "straight thinker" with a characterization that shows Euthyphro to be anything but, but that doesn't mean the name is some regular epithet for retards. Meno’s the real name of the historical figure of the dialogue, and Plato plays on his name by having him "remain" (the meaning of his name) in about the same position by the end of the dialogue as he started. Theages' name means "revering god", but Plato develops an ironic characterization of him as a youth who wants to be a tyrant and who might even desire to be like the gods themselves (his name can also mean "envying god").

John Wayne Gacy did nothing wrong.
